Thrainn is from a small town in the north of Iceland, but has lived and worked most of his life in Iceland's capital Reykjavik, with a few stints abroad in high-end kitchens.
Thrainn opened his two restaurants, ÓX and Sumac Grill + Drinks, under the same roof in 2017 in central Reykjavík. Then, at the end of 2022, ÓX moved to a new space, just a few blocks away, across the street from the new Amma Don speakeasy.
ÓX is an intimate counter-service restaurant seating 17 diners, focusing on Icelandic ingredients in a multi-course tasting menu. ÓX received a Michelin star in 2022, and Sumac Grill + Drinks remains on the list of Michelin recommended restaurants.
